Quest Management Xtensions - Configuration Manager 2007 Edition

System Discovery – Quest Management Xtensions - Configuration Manager 2007 Edition (QMX for Configuration Manager) automatically discovers Unix, Linux, VMware and Mac OS X systems and adds them to the System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (Configuration Manager) Systems Inventory and default collections.
Hardware Inventory – QMX for Configuration Manager enables administrators to transparently access hardware inventory for Unix, Linux, VMware and Mac OS X systems within Configuration Manager. Configuration Manager automatically displays system information for non-Windows systems within the Resource Explorer and standard reports.  Advanced hardware inventory captures additional data, not collected by default.
Software Inventory – Software inventory for non-Windows systems is integrated into Configuration Manager by QMX for Configuration Manager, including: file collection, file details, and product detail collections. Unix, Linux, VMware, and Mac OS X system software packages appear automatically within Add/Remove Programs. Directory and file wildcards provide flexibility to gather additional select files.  Advanced software inventory captures additional data, not collected by default.
Software and Patch Distribution – QMX for Configuration Manager provides "full-coverage" software distribution, as well as patch distribution to non-Windows systems that may otherwise go without critical updates. Administrators can create single system collections "on the fly" and distribute software to sub-collections.

Software Distribution Wizard – QMX for Configuration Manager automatically guides users through the process of configuring software distribution packages, programs, and advertisements. The wizard provides Unix-specific software distribution parameters and supports the necessary software delivery mechanisms provided natively on Unix, Linux, VMware, and Mac OS X systems. Generic distribution capabilities for script-based distributions provide optimal flexibility.Reporting – QMX for Configuration Manager provides access to resource reports for Unix, Linux, VMware and Mac OS X systems within the standard Configuration Manager reporting paradigm. Because QMX for Configuration Manager leverages the Configuration Manager database, administrators can leverage existing reports or create new reports for non-Windows systems.
Software Metering – QMX for Configuration Manager collects information on files and applications. Used together with inventory and reporting, administrators can track which applications are used, by whom and for what duration.  This allows software license compliance to be managed proactively, providing data for use in determining if additional / fewer licenses are required.Collections – QMX for Configuration Manager provides many pre-defined collections for Unix, Linux, VMware and Mac OS X systems for supported platforms, architectures and versions which can be selected and installed to speed task execution.  These non-Windows collections are installed next to Windows collections for better heterogeneous task management.  The non-Windows collections can be modified or new ones created as desired.
Remote Tools – Administrators can configure Quest Authentication Services (QAS)-enabled remote tools by launching native Unix and Linux remote tools and utilities—such as Red Hat Logviewer or Gnome System Monitor—from within the Configuration Manager console.  The Virtual Network Computer (VNC) software (another default tool) allows administrators to remote control Mac desktops and view them in the Configuration Manager console.Queries – QMX for Configuration Manager provides many pre-defined collections for Unix, Linux, VMware and Mac OS X systems for supported platforms, architectures and versions which can be selected and installed to provide quick access to a set of systems.  These queries can be modified or new ones created as desired.
Resource Explorer – QMX for Configuration Manager displays non-Windows hardware and software inventory information for Unix, Linux, VMware and Mac OS X systems within the standard Configuration Manager Resource Explorer—no modification required.Client Installation and Configuration – From a Windows System, the QMX for Configuration Manager client push installer allows an administrator to remotely install the QMX for Configuration Manager agent to Unix, Linux, VMware and Mac OS X systems.
Leverages existing infrastructure – QMX for Configuration Manager reduces your costs of implementation and training by leveraging the existing Configuration Manager 2007 infrastructure used for Windows management.  QMX for Configuration Manager natively integrates with the existing console, SQL database and management and distribution points. integrationIntegration with Quest Authentication Services (formerly Vintela Authentication Services/VAS) – QMX for Configuration Manager integrates with the Quest Authentication Services (QAS)offering, enabling administrators to discover QAS-enabled non-Windows systems that have been joined to the Active Directory Domain.  QMX also provides partial QAS functionality for joining Unix and Linux clients to the Active Directory Domain.
