About Quick Connect for Base Systems

Quick Connect for Base Systems is an option of Quest ActiveRoles Quick Connect (hereafter Quick Connect). The Quick Connect environment comprises the core module - Quick Connect Sync Engine, and connectors to different types of connected data systems.

In addition to connectors delivered with Quick Connect Sync Engine, Quick Connect for Base Systems version 1.2 allows you to install  connectors to the following categories of data systems:

  • Delimited text file: Implements connection to a text file representing a point-in-time snapshot of a data repository.
  • Microsoft SQL Server: Implements connection to a SQL database.
  • LDAP Directory: Implements connection to LDAP Directory services.
  • OLE DB: Implements connections to relational databases using an OLE DB provider.
  • Sun ONE Directory server: Implements connection to Sun ONE Directory Server (formerly iPlanet Directory Server).
  • Oracle: Implements connection to an Oracle database.
  • NDS:  Implements connection to Novel Directory service.

With Quick Connect for Base Systems, you can synchronize the identity information between those connected data systems and Active Directory.

Known Issues

This section provides a list of the currently known issues that customers may experience with Quick Connect for Base Systems 1.0.0 . For each issue, the list includes an ID number, which identifies the issue, a brief description of the problem, and a workaround, if any exists, for the problem.

TF00048527
The provisioning, deprovisioning and update operations from ActiveRoles Server to the delimited text file connected systems are not supported.

WORKAROUND
For information on how to work around this problem, contact Quest Support.

TF00048530
When using the Add Connected System wizard to create a connection to Sun One Directory Server (formerly IPlanet Directory Server), on the "Specify connection settings for LDAP directory service" page, you may encounter this error: "The specified LDAP Directory service cannot be contacted. Details: One or more arguments are invalid."

WORKAROUND
To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Add Connected System wizard, on the "Specify connection settings for LDAP directory service page", click Advanced Options.
  2. In the "Advanced" dialog box, clear the "Force ADSI to use secure authentication" check box and then click OK.
  3. Click Next to proceed with the wizard.

TF00048550
When synchronizing with an LDAP Directory service data system, you may encounter the following issue: Quick Connect synchronizes only a part of objects from the synchronization scope.

WORKAROUND
To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:

  1. Switch to the [QC Installation folder]\Service\Connectors\GenericLdapConnector folder.
A typical path to this folder is as follows: C:\Program Files\Quest Software\ActiveRoles Quick Connect 4.0\Service\Connectors\GenericLdapConnector\
  2. With a text editor, such as Notepad, open the ConnectorConfig.xml file.
  3. In this file, change the value of the SearchPageSize element in the following way:
    replace "<SearchPageSize>0</SearchPageSize>" with "<SearchPageSize>1000</SearchPageSize>."
  4. Save changes to the ConnectorConfig.xml file, and then try to run the synchronization step again.

Important: This procedure does not apply to Sun One Directory Server.

TF00048118
When deprovisioning objects, you may encounter the following issue: the synchronization operation fails with the "The source entry is not available" error.

WORKAROUND
To resolve this issue, when configuring the deprovisioning rules for source objects that are out of synchronization scope avoid using the source object attributes values in the Attribute update rules, Move target object rule, and Rename target object rule. These rules can be configured on the "Configure the deprovisioning rules" page of the Add Synchronization Step wizard.

TF00054461
When provisioning objects from ActiveRoles Server to a connected data system using a Generic LDAP connector, you may encounter the error message "The directory property cannot be found in the cache." This problem occurs if values of UniqueID attributes defined for the connected data system are not set.

WORKAROUND
To resolve this issue, configure Attribute Populations rules for UniqueID attributes.
To configure Attribute Populations rules, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Quick Connect console, open the "Workflows" tab, and then open the tab for workflow that contains a link to the provisioning synchronization step where the problem  occurred.
  2. Double-click that synchronization step. The "Provisioning Step Settings" dialog box opens.
  3. In the" Provisioning Step Settings" dialog box, open the "Provisioning Rules" tab, expand "Configure Initial Attributes Population Rules", and then use the "Attributes| Rule| Script| Text" split button to configure Initial Attributes Populations Rules for UniqueID attributes.
  4. When finished, click OK to close the "Provisioning Step Settings" dialog box.
  5. Restart the provisioning step again.

TF00054467
Incorrect behavior of the application: when performing a provisioning or deprovisioning synchronization step, a provisioned object can be provisioned again; the application can deprovision objects that do not meet the deprovisioning criteria, etc.
This issue shows up if you have configured the attribute update rules for attributes used to uniquely identify an object in the connected system.

WORKAROUND
To resolve this issue, do not configure the attribute update rules for those attributes.

TF00056121
Incorrect behavior of the application when synchronizing group memberships for connected data systems using Generic LDAP connector: when performing a synchronization operation, Quick Connect Sync Engine may return an error message that depends on the particular connected system. The synchronization operation fails for some of groups to synchronize.

WORKAROUND
To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:

  1. Ensure that mapping rules are configured for all classes of objects that are members of groups to synchronize. To configure mapping rules, use the "Mapping" tab in Quick Connect console.
  2. Ensure that Naming attributes are defined for all classes of objects that are members of groups to synchronize. To define Naming attributes, use the "Connection Information" tab in the "Connection Properties" dialog box for the connected system where the problem occurred.
TF00056824
After restarting a computer running Quick Connect Service you may encounter the following issue: Quick Connect Service does not start even though its startup type is set to "Automatic." The QC Server event log contains the following error-type events: "Quick Connect service failed to connect to SQL Server", "Critical error on Quick Connect service start occurred."

WORKAROUND
To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:

  1. Restart Microsoft SQL Server to which Quick Connect Service must connect.
  2. Restart Quick Connect Service.
